It’s a refreshingly visual and often musical surprise each time I visit. Some of the new works of over 50 creative artists make me smile, others make me get closer to one or two for a second look at the detail. It’s not a gallery one can just breeze by, and “get it.”
Then, every two weeks, everything changes, with new works and new artists. Sweet Art Gallery never gets old!
Sometimes it’ll be a pastel or an oil painting l that catches my eye, another time it's an unusual photograph of a beach in a storm or an eye dazzling acrylic sculpture.
Curator DeDe Sweet's artists see things in a fresh way.
On my latest visit, I have especially enjoyed the meditation with Tibetan style bowl conducted by Vivian with the Loving Kindness Prayer by Thich Nhat Hanh at the Prayer Shawl Installation and Paintings by Beth Schroeder.
Friend and Beth Schroeder Reciting Prayer |
May I be safe and free from injury
May I be free from anger, anxiety and fear
May I learn to look at myself with the eyes of understanding and love
May I be free of craving and delusion
See their sources and grow in wisdom
May I touch the seeds of joy in myself everyday
May I be filled with loving kindness
May I be free of attachment and aversion but not be indifferent
Beth’s hand painted ethereal silk shawls with relaxing outdoor images are inspired by Tibetan devotional silk thangkas. Each shawl is handwritten with the words of the above meditative prayer, giving healing and relaxation.
I look forward to seeing the vibrant men and women of painter Carole Siegel! At this latest exhibit, the blue and black painting of this colorful blue eyed woman garnered more second looks than nearly any other painting.
