Sweet Mama's Delicious Southen Breakfasts, Lunch, and Savory Caribbean Dinners

Sweet Mama’s Island Café has moved to the former site of Mr. Mom’s, a Naples breakfast and lunch icon for 50 years on the East Trail. Sweet Mama, Sheraz Khan, has kept the tried and true Mr. Mom’s breakfast and lunch menu intact, continuing to offer large breakfasts and full glasses of truly fresh squeezed Florida orange juice. The new spot is larger than her original location by NCH on the North Trail. Décor is warm and whimsical, with Island paintings and memorabilia.  Here are some of the best Southern-style breakfast deals in town!
Try the fresh fruit plate’s seasonal fruits, homemade raspberry poppy seed yogurt and a crisply toasted English muffin ($7).

The Belgian waffle ($7) with strawberries and freshly whipped cream is a crowd pleaser.

Quiche would please a Frenchman!
Bigger appetites may go for the $10 grilled sirloin steak with two eggs any style, crisp home fries and toast!
The Club Sandwich is filling, and hits the spot at lunch.
Chef Sheraz Khan is a European-trained chef and nutritionist, who has spent much time learning Italian cuisine while in Italy. She will prepare her curries, Jamaican jerk chicken, and other Caribbean island cuisine gluten free upon request. She uses fresh organic ingredients when seasonally available. The orange juice is Florida’s best, fresh squeezed. When it’s not too busy, she will come out and chat with you as well as with the regular customers. She’s a blast, with a great sense of humor!

What’s special are her authentic Caribbean delights, served mainly at dinnertime. Some may be prepared on request at lunch. I flip over her braised oxtails with rice-a generous portion of meaty rich tasting tender morsels with a wonderful mildly spiced sauce.
I’ve had oxtail across the Caribbean, and her version is a must-have. It sells out fast, so get your order in early!

Dinner is amazing savor her homemade mac & cheese, the famous corn casserole, jambalaya, and fresh seafood dishes like the lemon-pepper shrimp, or tender red snapper escovich with red beans and rice. Yum! It's awesome food at a great price without the stuffiness or pretense of some local restaurants. Many tourists flock to familiar chains-why leave home to visit another of the same chain? Try something different that’s wonderfully memorable. For delicious flavorful food at a great price, take it from the locals, and eat here!
